Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, and the supervision of the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Haider Khazal, and in coordination with the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Mufeed Turki Rashid, and the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Jalil, the College of Engineering at the University of Basra launched the first session of its free summer training camp program for students and graduates on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
The program began with an occupational safety and health course based on OSHA standards, organized by the Science and Technology Parks Department/Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Division, in cooperation with Al-Houshan Company for Engineering Training and Inspection.
The course aims to promote a culture of occupational safety among students and graduates and equip them with the essential knowledge and skills needed to deal with hazards in the workplace, particularly in engineering projects, industrial facilities, and oil and gas sector sites. The course also covers a range of important topics, including occupational hazard identification, risk assessment and control, personal protective equipment, workplace safety, and emergency response procedures.
The first day, presented by Dr. Mohammed Al-Toufan from the College of Engineering and Mr. Mohammed Al-Ali from Al-Houshan Company, witnessed significant attendance and interaction from participants. This reflects the students' and graduates' keen interest in developing their professional skills and preparing for the demands of the job market, particularly in fields requiring a thorough understanding of occupational safety and health procedures.
This course is part of a comprehensive training program that also includes courses in first aid, lifting supervision, computer programs, and correspondence preparation. It is part of the University of Basra and the College of Engineering's efforts to support students and graduates and bridge the gap between academic knowledge, practical applications, and the requirements of the job market.
