A faculty member from the College of Engineering at the University of Basra participated in the First International Forum for Deans of Colleges in Arab Environmentally Friendly Universities.

Professor Dr. Ammar Abdul-Shaheed Abdul-Hamid, a faculty member at the College of Engineering, University of Basra, and Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, represented the Dean of the College of Engineering at the First International Forum for Deans of Colleges in Arab Environmentally Friendly Universities, organized by Baba Gurgur University for Sustainable Development. He presented a paper on the Electrical Engineering Department's experience in installing a solar energy system within the college.

The paper presented the Electrical Engineering Department's experience in establishing a solar energy system, which is considered a pioneering initiative among Iraqi universities in the field of renewable energy investment and the conversion of solar energy into electricity. This initiative aims to contribute to addressing the shortage in the national electricity grid, as well as supporting and developing undergraduate and graduate research.

The forum witnessed broad participation from numerous local and Arab universities, where participants shared their institutions' experiences in the fields of sustainable development and environmentally friendly universities, thus fostering the exchange of expertise and scientific experiences among the participating universities.
