Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul-Razzaq Jassim indicated that the aim of establishing the workshop is to develop the current treatment plants with the development of central wastewater treatment plants or projects in Basra Governorate, which have a significant impact on the environmental reality in the province, in addition to the possibility of investing solid, liquid and gaseous waste generated during the phases. He added that there are many obstacles faced by the sewage treatment sector in Basra Governorate, the most important of which are the obsolescence of sewage projects, a shortage of engineering and technical cadres in most projects, the small number of central sewage projects, and the lack of use of modern technology in dealing with solid waste. It is worth noting that the first opening session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nuri Abdul-Nabi Nasser, Director General of the Marine Science Center, and Mr. Sinan Abdul-Mahdi, assistant technical director of the Basra Sewerage Directorate
As for the second session, it was chaired by Mr. Khaled Abdul Razzaq, Director of the Follow-up Department of the Basra Oil Company, and the engineer, Shaima Dakhil, of the Basra Governorate Sewerage Directorate.
