The College of Engineering at the University of Basrah held a meeting of the Industrial Advisory Council for the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering. The meeting was attended by the Dean of the College, the Head of the Department, several faculty members, and representatives from relevant oil and industrial companies and institutions.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the College and the industrial sector, aiming to align the curriculum with labor market demands, develop the practical skills of students in the department, and support summer training and joint applied projects. Emphasis was placed on integrating environmental and sustainability considerations into engineering education programs.
Attendees also addressed the importance of adhering to approved environmental standards in the oil and gas industry and the department's role in preparing engineers capable of addressing environmental challenges and mitigating the negative impacts of industrial activities. Furthermore, the meeting explored opportunities for research partnerships in the fields of environmental protection and industrial waste management.
The college deanship emphasized the crucial role of the Industrial Advisory Council in supporting the educational process and updating academic programs to keep pace with modern developments in the oil and gas industry and to align with safety and environmental protection requirements. The deanship stressed the importance of continuing to hold such meetings to strengthen integration between the university and industrial institutions.
The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing training and employment opportunities for graduates and expanding areas of joint cooperation, with a focus on environmentally friendly industrial practices in the coming phase.
