The College of Engineering at the University of Basra participates in a symposium presenting the results of the AgrIrak project.

The College of Engineering at the University of Basra, represented by its Dean, Professor Mufid Turki Rashid, and accompanied by a group of faculty members, participated in a scientific symposium held by the French Embassy in Iraq in cooperation with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and the Universities of Basra and Dhi Qar. The symposium took place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the French Institute in Baghdad.

The symposium reviewed the results of the AgrIrak project, which aims to support research and training to achieve sustainable agricultural irrigation in Iraq. The event also included a discussion of several projects implemented by the College of Engineering, in addition to a review of published research papers addressing climate change, environmental pollution, and sustainability. It also explored scientific solutions to address the problem of the salt marsh in Basra Governorate.

In his speech, Professor Mufid Turki Rashid emphasized the importance of strengthening academic and research cooperation between Iraqi universities and international scientific institutions, given its significant impact in finding practical solutions to the environmental challenges facing Iraq, particularly in the areas of water, energy, and environmental sustainability.
